Great historical context for McLean! BTW, you wrote “moved the mound back in 1968.” Actually, that was the last year of the 15” high mound. After the way pitchers dominated hitters that year, MLB lowered the mound height to 10” in 1969 and it’s been that height ever since. A minor nit in a fine article!
Good catch, should have said after 1968 or after the 1968 season. I guess if they made the decision in December 1968 then it was moved back in that year though I doubt anyone went out to dig up mounds in the winter.
